Oxford Fun Run – All in the name of charity

Last Sunday, over 400 runners completed the 5km charity run organised by the Oxford Rotary Club. Established over ten years ago, this race has continued to grow in popularity and all for a very good cause.

Runners have the opportunity to raise money (over £18,000 last year) for a number of different charities like Age Concern, Cystic Fibrosis, Motor Neurone, Stroke Association and also Pathway Workshop which is a business that provides employment and training for disable adults who find it difficult to obtain productive employment. Pathway employees have fantastic wood work skills.  Using reclaimed timber, they build a large variety of products from compost bins through to garden furniture. Summer is almost here, so give them a call to sort out your BBQ picnic table!

Unfortunately, summer hadn’t quite arrived last Sunday with overcast conditions followed up with some light rain.  The post race BBQ still went ahead in good spirits and while the volcanic ash clouds disrupted the RAF Falcon display parachute team popping in to start race proceedings, we are assured they will be back for next years event.  Book mark 7 May 2011 for your calendar.

I can recommend and will certainly be back for next year. I especially want another crack at running a sub twenty time, as I got close with a time of 20m:35s this year.

Congratulations to the winner with an impressive time of 17m:30s. More information is found online at:
